SoCal Stepping Away From NICA

Good Evening,

On behalf of the SoCal High School Cycling League and its Board of Directors I am reaching out to inform you that the SoCal League has ended its relationship with the National Interscholastic Cycling Association. The SoCal League was a founding member of NICA and for the past fifteen years, we have worked concomitantly to cultivate new generations of well-rounded cyclists while providing a community-centric and industry-leading interscholastic experience. SoCal was at the leading edge of the national campaign to “Get More Kids On Bikes” and for many seasons we have labored passionately towards that goal while also contributing to the development of NICA and the many programs that it established across the country.

Today our goals remain the same, and although the SoCal League has outgrown its relationship with NICA, we continue to grow ourselves and we remain committed to providing the preeminent youth cycling experience in Southern California. We know there will be many questions and more details will be forthcoming, however, at this moment, we want to assure you that this decision was made in the best interest of the SoCal League. We are confident that this change will result in a more seamless experience for our coaches, parents, student-athletes, sponsors, and staff members and you can expect to learn much more prior to our return for Season 15 on October 1st, 2022.

The SoCal League family is as strong as it has ever been, and right now the most important thing we can tell you is that our future together is very bright. I hope that wherever this news finds you that you are in good health and spirits. If you have any questions you may reach out to me directly via my temporary email at brandon@socalyouthcycling.org or by phone at (909) 753-3694.

Sincerest Regards,
Brandon La Rue
SoCal League Executive Director
